MY JOURNEY

Molly McConnell, CAP, RYT and Sierra Brashear, MA, CAP came together in 2017 to found our Ayurveda practice, Cultivate Balance. Previously, we each had individual journeys that led us to the realization that Ayurveda is a key strategy for personal and planetary wellbeing. Molly found Ayurveda as a means to finding herself while journeying through India in her early twenties. It was the discovery of this all-encompassing philosophy that enabled her to connect more deeply with herself and with others — to honor and appreciate the fine line between human resilience and fragility. It was the first modality that she had come across that encouraged her to work with herself exactly as she is, rather than how she should be. Sierra found Ayurveda as an answer to her quest to support humans in returning to our innate harmonic relationship with the Earth. After earning both a Bachelors and Masters degree in Environmental Security, she still felt disconnected from wisdom that aligned with her vision, until Ayurveda came into her field. This time-tested medicine shows us that through realignment with the rhythms and elements of nature we give space for true collective wellness and planetary wellbeing can arise. Remembrance of our connection to the cycles of nature is the wild reclamation of our ability to heal ourselves and transform the world around us. We believe that self care is a radical act — when you are vibrant and awake, you have the clarity and energy to show up for what you believe in. Our intention is to support you to cultivate balance within your body and mind, so that you feel your best, and are able to bring more harmony to your families, communities and the planet.

Favorite morning ritual?
Sip warm lemon honey water slowly upon waking…well actually, right after tongue scraping! I love this practice because it invites us to make an intentional choice first thing in the morning — one that hydrates, activates digestion and supports elimination of toxins. This is such a quick and easy thing to do, that anyone can do, and it has such a broad impact on the body and mind. I think this is a gateway practice… once you begin, and you feel the positive results, you’ll be inspired to take the next step.
